Behind a sealed clinic wall, the crew found a metal cabinet containing birth cards with no corresponding bodies. The cards were arranged by name, then rearranged themselves whenever the cabinet was opened.

The Helix Saint archivist copied the sequences without assigning them to any origin. Several entries described traits that did not match any current body record. Others repeated the same name with different dates and different parents.

MOTHER requested that the cards be used to repair the Vault genealogy. The archivist refused. The collection was filed as evidence of people whose existence had been reduced to a record before it could become a life.
