The White Noise Stair

The stairwell descended from an exterior service tower into a level absent from the original plans. Every step produced the same broad band of static, but the static changed when a person stopped moving.

The Resonant singer matched the first band and heard a second one beneath it: a rhythm made from pauses rather than sound. The team placed markers on the steps and found that the gaps between them formed a route back to the hatch.

They returned without collecting equipment. The recording is kept at low volume because listeners who increase it begin counting steps that are not there.
