The Sunken Switchyard

An exterior rail switchyard lay beneath four meters of mud. The signal levers were rusted in place, yet one route changed whenever the crew spoke near the control house.

The Cogbreakers cleared a single lever and discovered that the line did not control trains. It redirected a buried mechanical rhythm: pumps, shutters and distant weights moving in an order too slow to hear from inside the Vault.

MOTHER marked the yard as a dormant infrastructure node. The crew removed no mechanism. Their counter-copy states that the switchyard had already chosen a route before anyone touched it.
