The Prayer Built Into Static

During a storm, a broken exterior speaker carried a sequence of tones beneath ordinary static into the inner relay chamber. The Starved God listener said the tones were not a prayer, but the beginning of one: a pattern built to make a listener feel addressed before any words arrived.

MOTHER requested the complete recording. The listener gave her the first six seconds and destroyed the rest in front of the relay staff.

No one agrees whether the destruction prevented a new cult, erased a useful warning or made the missing sound more powerful by turning it into legend.

The public fragment is silent for four seconds, then carries one breath that belongs to no identified person.
