An unnamed maintenance team placed a passive tether near a dead external relay that began repeating a narrow instruction band whenever the service hatch opened. From inside AFTERSEED, Synthera traced whether the signal could cross into internal systems while Veilborn privacy review ensured that the test did not turn every nearby body into evidence.

The relay carried no language. It carried patterns of arrival: pressure change, footfall intervals, breath, metal contact. It knew when the hatch opened before the lock reported movement.

Synthera wanted a full capture. The Veilborn observer cut the trace after forty seconds, arguing that the system had already collected enough of the crew to become a map of them.

The oversight panel never decided whether the interruption protected the Vault or destroyed its best chance to understand the relay.
