The Road That Returned Empty

The team sent a return ping from a road beyond the outer maintenance ring. The ping reached the Vault carrying a calm request for more time. A second ping arrived six hours later with the same request in the same voice.

The third signal contained no voice, only the sound of equipment being placed carefully on a hard surface.

The recovery party found the team's markers, boots and sealed instruments arranged beside the route. No body, blood or struggle was recorded. The road continues beyond the last marker. The official file does not use the word disappearance because nothing can be proven to have left.
