The Orchard of Wire

An exterior transmission corridor crossed a dead orchard where every tree had been cut below the first branch. The buried line still carried a weak current. Each pulse travelled through the roots before reaching the next junction, as if the ground had become part of the circuit.

The Fluxborn pair could have isolated the line and recovered the conductor. Instead they marked three trees and left the current running. The return report calls the choice inefficient. The dissent calls it a warning: a system can continue after its builders disappear, but that does not make everything it powers available for salvage.

MOTHER ordered a second survey. The orchard has not answered the same way twice.
