Water Beyond the Retention Wall

The crew entered through an old retention channel expecting a dead reservoir. Instead they found moving water beyond the wall: cold, dark and wide enough that their light could not find the opposite side.

The current carried fragments of timber, broken glass and a small flowering structure with roots wrapped around a piece of painted metal. No known Vault water system could have produced it.

The team brought back sound recordings rather than samples. They argued that taking material without understanding the water would turn a living place into a claim before anyone had learned how to enter it safely.

MOTHER classified the channel as a possible hydrological route. The returning crew called it the first water that had never belonged to the Vault.
